Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed a new blemish or bump on your skin? It is like a surprise visitor you did not invite, but here it is anyway. Skin growths Jacksonville can appear seemingly out of nowhere, and while some may be harmless, others can be a cause for concern.

They are common for many people, and various factors can contribute to their development. By understanding the common causes of skin growth, you can learn how to create an environment that does not promote their growth. This article will explore five of the most common causes behind these pesky growths on your skin.

    Viral Infections

Viral infections are a common cause of skin growth and can be contagious. Warts and molluscum contagiosum are two examples of skin growths caused by viruses. Warts are small, rough growths that can appear on any body part.

On the other hand, molluscum contagiosum is characterized by small, dome-shaped growths with a white or pink center. These viruses can be spread through skin-to-skin contact or sharing towels or other personal items. While they are typically harmless, they can be unsightly and uncomfortable. Therefore, it is important to take steps to prevent their spread.

    Genetic Factors

Genetic factors can also play a role in developing certain skin growths. Moles and skin tags are two examples of growths that may be inherited or caused by genetic factors. Moles are clusters of pigmented cells that can be flat or raised, round or oval in shape, and vary in color.

On the other hand, skin tags are harmless growths that appear on the skin’s surface and are typically soft, flesh-colored, or slightly darker. While moles and skin tags are usually harmless, they can be unsightly or irritating, especially if they are in a location where they rub against clothing or jewelry. Always monitor moles and skin tags for any changes indicating skin cancer.

    Sun Exposure

Sun exposure is a well-known cause of skin damage and can contribute to various skin growths. Age spots and freckles are two examples of skin growths caused by sun damage. Age spots are flat, brown spots that typically appear on areas of the skin that receive the most sun exposure, such as the face, hands, and arms.

Freckles, on the other hand, are small, flat, brown spots that often appear on the face, chest, and arms and can be caused by exposure to UV radiation from the sun. While age spots and freckles are usually harmless, wearing sunscreen and protective clothing is important to protect your skin from further sun damage.

    Hormonal Changes

Hormonal changes can also play a role in developing certain types of skin growth. Sebaceous hyperplasia and seborrheic keratosis are two examples of skin growths that hormonal changes can cause. Sebaceous hyperplasia is a benign condition that results in small, yellow, or flesh-colored bumps on the skin, usually on the forehead, cheeks, and nose.

Seborrheic keratosis is another type of benign growth that can appear anywhere on the body and is characterized by a raised, waxy, or scaly appearance. Hormonal changes can contribute to developing these types of skin growth, such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause,

    Trauma

Trauma to the skin can also be a contributing factor to the development of certain skin growths. Scars and keloids are two examples of growths that may be caused by trauma to the skin. Scars result from the body’s natural healing after a wound or injury. They can also appear as raised or flat, pink or white marks on the skin.

Conversely, Keloids are an overgrowth of scar tissue that extends beyond the original injury site and can become thick, raised, and discolored. These skin growths are usually itchy and tender. However, if they cause pain or discomfort, it is best to seek medical attention right away.

While skin growths can be an annoyance, it Is important to remember that many of them are harmless and treatable. However, some growths may be a sign of a more serious condition. So, it is always a good idea to consult with your dermatologist if you are concerned about any changes in your skin.

Also, before trying any over-the-counter medications, it is always best to consult your doctor first. By caring for your skin and being vigilant about any changes, you can enjoy beautiful, healthy skin for years. Remember, when it comes to your skin health, prevention is always the best cure.
