Over time, women have been prone to several diseases affecting their well-being, such as autoimmune problems and incontinence. Today, fibroids Garden City continue to be a common challenge to women’s wellness. Some fibroids can lead to few symptoms, while others come with several symptoms that can be difficult to deal with. If you are a candidate struggling with the condition, do not worry because you can get numerous treatments. This article elaborates the top six fibroids treatment options you need to know.

    1. Fibroid Embolization

This procedure is effective in shrinking a fibroid. During the procedure, your physician will inject polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) into your arteries responsible for feeding the fibroid. The PVA clogs the blood supplied to the fibroid, making it shrink. Even though the procedure is non-surgical, you will spend some nights in the hospital since there are chances of vomiting, pain, and nausea.

    2. GnRH antagonists

GnRH antagonists place your body in menopause by suppressing the estrogen that boosts the growth of uterine fibroids. Unfortunately, these medications are expensive. You should take these drugs for the utmost six months since they increase the likelihood of osteoporosis that weakens your bones. Your healthcare provider may also recommend a low dose of progestin to reduce the chances of osteoporosis.

    3. Iron Supplements

Usually, fibroids may cause anemia and heavy menstrual bleeding. As a result, your doctor may suggest iron supplements that come without a prescription. The iron components assist your body in refilling the supply of blood cells to the body. However, these supplements can contribute to side effects, including constipation, although time-released supplements can reduce the effects. Thus, you should consult your physician to know the most appropriate dose.

    4. Pain Medications

Over-the-Counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) like naproxen and ibuprofen can assist in eliminating mild pain. Moreover, NSAIDs can also lower the heavy menstrual bleeding that fibroids cause. The most common side effect of the drugs is a pain in the abdomen. For some women, applying the drugs for about 90 days can contribute to gastrointestinal ulcers.

    5. GnRH Agonists

Doctors usually recommend GnRH agonists to shrink fibroids and minimize anemia. Your doctor will execute a similar precaution as the GnRH antagonists during the procedure. Whenever you stop taking GnRH agonists, the fibroids may start growing again. These medications are effective because they can be combined with GnRH, progesterone, and estrogen to improve outcomes.

    6. Myomectomy

Myomectomy is an effective surgery that eliminates fibroids. If you want to become pregnant, the procedure is more ideal than others. However, it may cause scars that can cause infertility. You should wait for about 4-6 months after the surgery before you attempt conceiving. Symptoms disappear for some women after the surgery, but for some women, they may return. The surgery can be abdominal surgery, but your practitioner may apply a laparoscopy or hysteroscopy to eliminate fibroids without making large cuts in your abdomen.

Fibroids can be devastating and embarrassing. If you are a candidate tired of tarmacking from one healthcare clinic to another without receiving the treatment you want, worry no more. At Women’s Healthcare of Garden City, a board-certified OB/GYN, John Gomes, provides state-of-art diagnostic testing to address troublesome fibroids in your uterus.
