Stress, whether it’s due to work or other life events, can have a huge impact on our skin. For many millennials, stress-related skin breakouts are an all too common occurrence these days. But did you know that dehydration can be exacerbating your breakouts? Let’s take a look at the link between dehydration and stress-related skin breakouts.

When we experience stress, our bodies produce cortisol – a hormone which is associated with increased oil production in the skin, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. But it doesn’t just stop there – dehydration only serves to make matters worse. Not drinking enough water means that toxins aren’t flushed out of the body efficiently, resulting in even more blocked pores and blemishes.

It’s not just about drinking enough water either – what you eat and drink has a big impact on your skin health too. Eating sugary foods or caffeine-laden drinks when under pressure is the perfect recipe for a breakout disaster. Sugar exacerbates inflammation (which leads to redness) while caffeine dehydrates the skin further, leading to sallow complexions and flaky patches.

How to Combat the Symptoms of Dehydration & Stress

A good way to combat these issues is by taking preventative action when it comes to looking after your skin. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day (aim for eight glasses if you can manage it), as well as avoiding sugary snacks and caffeinated drinks whenever possible. Cleansing every morning will also help keep your skin clear from acne-causing bacteria and grime from the night before.

Booking an appointment at a reputable skin clinic in Brisbane can also be an effective solution in finding the right avenue to clearer skin, based on your individual skin type. A qualified and experienced dermatologist will be able to advise you on the best skincare routine for your specific needs, helping you avoid future breakouts before they even start.

Stress can wreak havoc on our skin if we don’t take steps to keep it in check – including ensuring that we stay hydrated!

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will help flush out toxins from our system, which can lead to more blocked pores and blemishes if left unchecked. Additionally, avoiding sugary snacks and drinks as well as caffeine-laden beverages can help stave off those pesky stress-related breakouts. If all else fails, speaking to a skin clinic might be the best option. Good luck!
