One of my favorite types of meat is brisket. I love going to BBQ joints and ordering sliced brisket with a tangy sauce, then eating some later for leftovers as brisket sandwiches on breads and buns, or to chop it up and making chopped brisket with sauce. There are so many ways to serve brisket once it’s been prepared. Brisket, per pound, isn’t an expensive cut of meat compared to steak and sirloin cut meats, but because it’s so big, many people shy away from buying it. Also, because brisket is typically a smoked and grilled meat, most people don’t…
Recently, I have been amazed at how many of my friends, female friends in particular, are using colon cleansers, under advice from their friends or family that using a colon cleanser detoxifies the body and can help people lose weight. Something about the concept of colon cleansing just didn’t seem quite right to me, so I set out to do a little research to answer the question: Are Colon Cleansers and Detox Drinks Safe? More than that, do colon cleanser actually DO anything or have any benefits? I was skeptical, so after a bit of internet research to get the…
Fibromyalgia is a condition that has many varied symptoms but chief amongst them by many sufferers is chronic pain. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia many years ago, and while I definitely live with chronic pain, my other medical conditions are more acute, so my doctors never pay much attention to helping me manage fibromyalgia symptoms. Because of this, I’ve had to find my own means for managing the pain and other symptoms that can sometimes be caused by fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia pain can take many forms, from joint and muscle pain to an all-over achiness that is difficult to describe or…
In this article, we’ll explore some favorite beauty tips for making homemade lip gloss or lip color, without spending a small fortune. Most of these tips came from a group of teenage girls who all asked their friends to report back their favorite homemade beauty tips for homemade lip gloss and homemade lip color. Let’s see what they had to say: HOMEMADE LIP GLOSS – LIGHT COLOR, FLAVORED Most beauty stores sell small round tins or plastic containers with lids that screw on, and you can usually buy them in bulk for just a few dollars. Using sugar-free, pre-sweetened Kool-Aid…
The old saying is, “Any woman over 25 needs to keep cucumbers in the house!” Now, get your mind out of the gutter and onto your face: your eyes! Cucumbers have long been used to help prevent puffiness around the eyes, particularly on the upper lids and the area right under your eyes. This is, in part, because cucumbers have a high water content that helps keep your eyes moisturized while drawing the puffiness out. Using veggies to soothe your puffy eyes is not limited to cucumbers (which botanically are fruit). Zucchini is also good at helping remove puffiness. Additionally,…
All human beings secrete pheromones, which are chemical scents that our bodies produce, specifically for attracting other humans. All animals, humans included, produce these scents that attract members of their same species. Generally, the scents are to attract the opposite gender, in order to facilitate procreation and thus ensure the survival of the species. Therefore, it makes sense that scent is directly, biologically, chemically ingrained as part of the mating ritual. Factor that out to the social aspect of dating, mating, marrying, etc., and you get perfumes and colognes meant to entice the opposite gender by making the male or…
One myth about acne is that all acne is the same, all acne comes from the same causes, and all acne can be treated the same. Adult acne and teen acne are often quite different, and even with teens, acne can be caused by many different things. Another common misconception about acne is that it’s caused by being unclean or not taking proper care of the skin, particularly for those with acne on their faces. The truth is, the opposite is sometimes true: washing the face too frequently can cause acne flares! Face Washes Don’t Always Work My son is…
Dry skin doesn’t have to be a fact of life. In fact, soft, supple, smooth skin can absolutely be had, with only a little bit of time and effort, and without spending a fortune. While you can purchase over-the-counter products, it’s not necessary to spend a lot of money to treat dry skin. Dry Skin Isn’t Normal It’s important to note that dry skin is not a normal skin condition. If your skin is rough, flaky, itchy or red, this is a sign something is wrong with your skin or even a symptom of a larger, more serious condition. For…
Several years ago, I had never heard of essential oils. One day, I took a plate of manicotti out of the microwave, and while carrying the plate, with cheese and sauce so hot it was bubbling still, I tripped and spilled the entire plate against my bare chest. The resulting burn was so bad that when I wiped the sauce and cheese from my chest with a towel, it pulled skin off with it, leaving me with second- and third-degree burns. A quick visit to the ER later, and I was sent home with some cooling gel and antibiotics as…
